Avoid Avoid Avoid!!!
To summarise my experience of Essex Prestige Autos - honestly go elsewhere! Zero professionalism. Zero customer service skills. Faulty vehicles.
Just to paint a picture, I have purchased numerous cars over the years from dealerships and would consider myself having a reasonable amount of experience with it. Sometimes issues arise with these vehicles but the way the dealership handles these issues is what separates good dealerships from bad dealerships. Unfortunately Essex Prestige Autos falls under the bad dealership section.
I purchased a Tesla from the dealership, the reason I chose this dealership was mainly due to the body kit that they install in house on the Tesla’s! (Don’t be fooled like me, it fell off)
So the initial contact / payments etc were fine - then came the collection day.
I travelled to collect the vehicle and upon arrival I inspected the vehicle and noticed that one of the door speakers was cracked. I highlighted this to the salesman (Nick) and I was informed that they have some spares in stock and will swap it over! I then noticed they didn’t have spares in stock and instead were swapping my broken door card with one of the other Teslas they we’re selling - meaning the person who bought the other Tesla inherited the cracked speaker. (This should have been a red flag that stopped the purchase)
I then began my drive home and immediately noticed an error on the dash regarding the 12v battery requiring replacement.
I pulled over and rang Nick (10 minutes into my drive) who stated that it should clear as I drive due to the car being sat for a while.
However, this was not the case and after 24hrs I had to contact the garage again to report that the fault was still present, I also now had squeaking from the brakes, the car pulled to one side and I noticed some bolts missing from the body kit the garage had installed.
THREE DAYS later they replied to my email. They asked me to get a quote for the work from a local garage and said they would send me a replacement battery to install.
TWO DAYS later they eventually replied to the quote, and told me without even checking that the brakes are fine (even though they were squeaking and a garage inspected them and identified the issue) hence the quote!
They also said the quote was too expensive and they would fix the issues themselves.
However, they refused to collect the vehicle and insisted I made the 150 mile commute again to have the faults repaired.
After THREE WEEKS of waiting the replacement battery arrived but not at my home address as you would expect, oh no, instead it arrived at the garage I had the quote from. This was without any prior warning, luckily the garage had put it to one side when I went in to ask (they were also confused as to why it was sent to them and who it was even for)
ANOTHER WEEK passed without any communication from the garage and more faults developed. The body kit (the reason I purchased the vehicle from this specific dealership) - fell off the front.
I sent another email to report this and also chased a date I could drop the car off for the initial repairs.
After sending another email asking to just return the vehicle I finally received a response, they offered a date of repair 2 MONTHS after I purchased and reported the issues!! At this the time the car also developed a seat belt tensioner issue, where the belt wouldn’t retract essentially causing a major safety defect!
Finally the day of inspection - I arrived on the day they provided, at the time they stated and would you believe it? No one knew I was coming… Nick was on site again and asked to see the email thread but from this he couldn’t determine who scheduled it in as no one at the company signs emails - so you have no idea who you are talking to via email! (this is probably so their name cannot be attached to the negativity surrounding this dealership)
Finally, the repairs began and I left site for a couple of hours. Upon my return the repairs were completed with the exception of;
The brakes - I was told these were just dirty and have been cleaned now.
The tracking - as no one knew I was coming, they didn’t have anyone trained on site.
On my drive home I now noticed;
A clicking noise during acceleration.
The battery still showed the low voltage error.
The brakes still squeaked.
I reported these issues via email and I was told to go to my local Tesla for a quote / repair of the battery issue and to send the invoice over after I had made payment.
FIVE DAYS after the invoice was sent, they finally replied and refunded me.
Tesla informed me that the mechanic who installed the battery did not know what he was doing.
The brakes were still squeaking and the knocking noise was still present.
After numerous back and forth and asking me to provide quotes, then taking 3/4 days to reply, the vehicle was rectified by Tesla.
EIGHT DAYS after sending the invoice for the repair, the money was transferred over to my bank but no confirmation email was ever sent about this.
Not long after this, another piece of the body kit fell off the front (the opposite side) - I reported this via email again and I was told.. “They don’t just fall off.. and we have done more than enough for you”
Since then the vehicle has also developed an issue with the radio not working, the emergency in call system not working and the boot not opening properly.
I am still currently chasing all these issues and now in the process of returning the vehicle under the CRA2015. (Just waiting a few more weeks for them to reply)
All of the above issues happened within FOUR MONTHS of owning the vehicle.
It has been none stop issues. None stop chasing emails. None stop chasing refunds.
If you’re into draining experiences, low value for money, vehicles that aren’t checked properly and continuous faults with said vehicles - Essex Prestige Cars is for you!! Avoid Avoid Avoid!!!
