You can now tax your vehicle even if you don’t have your V5C logbook or your V11 tax reminder letter.

DVLA launches new service to simplify car taxing, even without key documents

The DVLA has made it easier than ever to tax your car with a new online service.

For the first time, they’ve connected their online registration and licencing systems. This means you can now tax your vehicle even if you don’t have your V5C logbook or your V11 tax reminder letter.

Before this update, losing those documents made taxing your vehicle a hassle, often requiring a wait of up to five days for a new V5C or a call to the DVLA.

Now, if you’ve misplaced either document, you can request a replacement and tax your vehicle in one go. The process is quicker and more convenient, allowing you to get back on the road faster.

Julie Lennard, the DVLA's chief executive, said, “We are always looking for ways to improve our digital services to provide more convenience for motorists.

"This latest enhancement will enable customers who have misplaced or lost their V5C to get a replacement and tax their vehicle quickly and easily".

This update is part of the DVLA’s ongoing improvements to its digital services.

How does the new tax registration process work?

Simply visit the DVLA website. If you’re the registered keeper and haven’t changed your name or address, you can apply for a new V5C and tax your vehicle right away, without waiting for the document to arrive by mail.
