Frequently Asked Questions
What do I do if my car breaks down or develops a fault?
If your vehicle breaks down or a warning light appears, stop driving immediately and contact the claims administrator. Do not proceed with any repairs until you receive authorisation. Make sure the repairer contacts the claims team before starting work.
Where is the repair carried out?
You're free to choose your own garage - ALA doesn't restrict where you take your vehicle. Labour rates up to £60 or £100 per hour (including VAT) are covered depending on your policy level, with repair times assessed using industry-standard data.
Who pays the bills?
Your warranty underwriter settles authorised repair costs directly with the garage. Once work is complete, arrange for the invoice to be sent to ALA with your policy number. All invoices should be made payable to your policy underwriter.
When do I service my vehicle? Who pays for it?
Service your vehicle according to the manufacturer's recommended intervals at any VAT-registered garage. Service costs are your responsibility. Maintaining proper servicing is essential - failure to do so may affect your warranty coverage.
Can I cancel my warranty and get a refund?
Yes. Cancel within 30 days for a full refund (if you haven't claimed). After that, you'll get a refund for the unused portion of your policy - unless you've already made a claim.
Is my warranty renewable?
Yes. When your cover is due to expire, ALA will get in touch about renewing. Existing customers receive a loyalty discount, provided your vehicle still qualifies.
What happens if I sell the vehicle covered by the warranty?
The warranty can be transferred to the new owner when you sell - as long as they're a private buyer, not a dealer. Let ALA know within 14 days of the sale. There may be a small transfer fee.
Does my vehicle need to be inspected before I can buy cover?
No. Unlike many warranty providers, ALA doesn't require a pre-purchase vehicle inspection. You can get covered straight away without booking an assessment.
Does my vehicle have to have a full service history?
A full service history isn't mandatory. However, your vehicle should ideally have had its most recent service completed. You must follow your vehicle's manufacturer guidelines, including checking your oil level weekly. Failure to do so may affect your ability to claim.
Does ALA provide a warranty for any vehicle?
ALA covers cars, vans, and pickups built to UK specifications. Vehicles must not be modified, used commercially, for hire/reward, instruction, competition, or off-road purposes. Maximum gross weight is 3.5 tonnes.
Will I always be able to speak to a Customer Services Representative in the UK?
Absolutely. ALA's customer service team is based in North Yorkshire, so you'll always speak to someone in the UK. Calls are typically answered within 10 seconds during office hours.
Are there any ongoing mileage restrictions?
No annual mileage limits apply during your warranty period. There are also no maximum total mileage restrictions. Wear and tear coverage is available for vehicles up to 8 years old with under 80,000 miles.
Does the warranty pay for recovery?
Yes - if you have a valid warranty claim, you can receive up to £50 towards recovery costs. Just make sure to get authorisation before arranging the recovery.
What if I need a hire car?
If the recommended repair time exceeds 8 hours and cannot be resolved another way, ALA contributes up to £50 per day for alternative transport, for a maximum of 7 days. Prior authorisation is required and hire must be from a VAT-registered company.
What if I break down outside of the UK?
You're covered for breakdowns in EU countries for up to 60 days per year. This is included as standard with your ALA warranty policy.
How can I pay for my ALA Warranty?
ALA accepts all major credit and debit cards. Payment options include a single payment or 0% monthly instalments. Use the online quote calculator to see your options.
What do I do if I need to make a complaint?
Contact ALA directly by phone (01653 916304), email ([email protected]), or post at Unit 3, Park Farm Courtyard, Easthorpe, Malton, YO17 6QX. For underwriter-related complaints, contact your policy's underwriter. Unresolved issues may be escalated to the Financial Ombudsman Service within 6 months of the final response.
Do I have to use a specific garage to fix my vehicle under my warranty policy?
No, you can use any VAT-registered garage of your choice. The labour rate contribution depends on your chosen cover level. Always confirm the garage accepts underwriter payments and obtain authorisation before work begins.
When can I claim?
Claims can be made 28 days after your policy starts. This waiting period applies to all new ALA warranty policies.
Are there any excluded vehicles?
Certain makes are excluded: Aston Martin, Bentley, Bugatti, Caterham, Dodge, Ferrari, Fisker, Hummer, Koenigsegg, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maybach, McLaren, Morgan, Noble, Pagani, Rolls Royce, and Spyker. All imported vehicles are also excluded.
